Moving is a great time to sort through your house and garage to decide what items to move, what you want to sell or donate, and what needs to go to the landfill.

The list below includes charities you can drop off items to and those who will pick up furniture items. Please note the items must be in good, clean condition. Some charities will ask to see pictures of the furniture and appliances before confirming a pickup. Be sure to check with the location in your area to verify their requirements.

Charities

Habitat for Humanity: https://habitat.ca/en/restore/donate-to-a-restore

They will pick up furniture items, large appliances, and building materials or you can drop them off. They also accept most household items.

Salvation Army Thrift Stores: https://thriftstore.ca/donating-goods/

Some of their locations offer furniture pickups. They also accept books, clothing, housewares, and electronics. Contact your local Thrift Store to see if they offer pick ups.

Goodwill: https://goodwillindustries.ca/donation-centre-locator/

Some of their locations do have the ability to pick up furniture items. They also take most household items, clothing in good condition, and they take old electronics for recycling.

Diabetes Association: https://declutter.diabetes.ca/pickup

They do not take furniture donations but will pick up clothing, textiles, electronics in good condition, kitchen items, décor items, and small kitchen appliances in good working order.

Food Banks Canada: https://foodbankscanada.ca/

Moving is a great time to sort through canned and boxed food items. Discard food that is opened or passed the expiry date. The rest can be dropped off at your local food bank to help people in your community.

Many other charities in Canada accept clothing and household items for donation. Check online for regional charities in your area.
