Congratulations on purchasing or renting a new condo! Here is a new condo checklist to help:

Mover

If you plan on hiring a moving company, make the arrangements at least four weeks before the move. Book six weeks in advance if you are moving during the summer peak season.

Ask the condo management company if there is a loading dock and a service elevator that must be used for the move-in. Book the date and time you need and give this information to the movers.

Utilities

Arrange for utilities if they are not included in the condo fees:

  • Hydro
  • Gas
  • Water
  • Cable/Wi-Fi
  • Phone company (if you are planning on having a landline)

If some or all the utilities are included in the condo fees, ask the condo management company if they will be setting up your account or if this is something you will need to do.

Window Coverings

Some new condos will have blinds or window coverings, and others have specific rules about the colour of window coverings. Check with your condo management company several weeks before the move so you have time to research and buy window coverings if they are not included in the unit.

Moving Countdown

Purchase packing supplies and packing paper from the moving company at least two weeks before your move date to pack the items you will be moving.

Check with the condo management office one week before your move to ensure all the paperwork is ready. Find out where cardboard, paper, and garbage will go after your move.

The moving company will call 2-3 days before the move date to confirm the arrival time of the truck and crew.

Move In Day

After the movers have completed the move-in, unpack the cleaning supplies and clean the cupboards and closets.

Then unpack all the necessary boxes for items you will need right away in your new condo:

  • Toiletries
  • Dishes & silverware
  • Coffee pot, kettle
  • Tea, coffee, sugar, cream
  • Water
  • Bedding
  • Towels and shower curtain
  • Lightbulbs
  • Vacuum
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Dishwashing or dishwasher soap and rinse
  • Hand soap
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning cloths

If you are moving to a condo townhouse, you will need a lawnmower, weed trimmer, and essential gardening tools. You may also need a snow shovel if the condo management company does not plow the driveways.
