Not all movers who advertise are professional movers. There are many rogue movers in Canada, individuals, and companies who prey on the moving public. In the last few months, numerous charges have been filed by the Police against rogue movers.
Please take the time to ask four important questions from a potential mover and do your research before hiring them. Check with your local better business bureau, check their Google reviews, and contact the Canadian Association of Movers.
Here are four some important questions to ask a mover:
Where is your office located?
Beware of a company that does not want to give you their address or does not have one listed on their website. If they do, Google the address. Is it an apartment? This indicates that they are not a professional moving company.
Can I visit your office?
A professional mover has an office, a warehouse, and trucks and welcomes people to visit their premises. Rogues do not have offices.
Is my moving quote guaranteed?
A professional moving company will provide you with a detailed quote for your move. They will first come to your home to look at the items to be moved, then provide a move quote in writing.. The final cost of your move is guaranteed not to exceed ten percent of the estimated cost.
Do you have vehicle and move insurance?
A professional mover has fully- paid-up insurance in the event of a vehicle accident or property damage, and they have public liability coverage. They also can offer you full-value replacement protection on your move.
Last but not least, if a mover gives you a substantially lower quote than the rest, this is another red flag that they may be a rogue mover.
