There are so many details to look after when you move. Decluttering, cleaning, utilities disconnect and reconnect, phone and cable, post office, vet, and schools, to name a few. Time can become a real challenge when moving.

Here are five common challenges that can be avoided:

Start packing early

Avoid late nights doing last-minute packing. Most people do not realize how much they have until they start packing it. We recommend starting at least one month before your move date. If you have a 4+ bedroom home, begin at least six weeks before your move.

Contact a Professional mover

To get your preferred move date and a trained crew, contact a professional moving company at least four weeks before your move date or soon as you have decluttered your home to put it up for sale.

Closing delays

Closing delays happen. Talk to your mover ahead of time about this and what can be done if a closing delay does happen. The moving crew can usually wait for a small fee if it is only an hour to two. If the delay is longer, the move-in may have to be rescheduled for the next business day.

Cleaning

Plan to have your new home cleaned before moving in. This way, you can start putting items away in cupboards and closets and not be overwhelmed with unpacked boxes after the move.

Floor Plan

Your move will go much smoother and quicker if you know what furniture items are going in each room. Measure to make sure everything will fit and have a floor plan ready for the movers. This will alleviate moving furniture around after the move.
