Declutter

Clean the exterior of your home
Clean the windows, siding, trim, gardens and walkways. Rake the leaves, clean gutters and downspouts. Clean and re-organize the garage or garden shed including sweeping and washing the floor. Re-caulk windows and doors.

Find a reputable realtor in your area. Talk to them about your home, your expectations and what the next steps are. The realtor will keep you upated on the current market conditiions and will let you know the best time to list your house.
Contact a moving company
Once your house is decluttered, contact a moving company to get a quote on your move so you know how much to budget for this. Be sure to contact a reputable moving company, check with the BBB in your area and the Canadian Association of Movers to confirm. Get a quote for the physical move, packing or partial packing services and transit coverage during the move.
The moving company will provide you with tips on move organization and planning, packing tips, a list of items that are not allowed by law on the moving van and a list of companies and individuals to notify about your move.
